- One hundred building material samples collected from water-damaged buildings in Sweden.
- Analysis by liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry for a panel of mycotoxins.
- Substrates included gypsum, wood, and other common construction materials.
What they found
- Sixty-six percent of samples were reported positive for at least one mycotoxin.
- Trichothecenes, sterigmatocystin, gliotoxin, aflatoxin B1, and satratoxins G and H were among those detected.
- Detections were reported across a range of substrate types.
What this study does not establish
- Material sampling; airborne concentrations and occupant exposure were not measured.
- Samples came from buildings investigated for damage, not a random sample.
- Presence of a toxin in material does not establish inhalation exposure.
